Message of Peace - Justice P K Shamsuddin
Mohammed revealed
these verses, “The Munafiqun is simply ignorant. They pretend that when Muslims
return to Medina the stronger will cause the evacuation of the weaker, but they
do not know might belongs to God, His prophets and the believers.” The
people believed that the revelation of these verses was verdict of death passed
on Ubayya. When son of Abdulla Ibn Ubayy, who was a true Muslim approached
Mohammed and said that if the reports were true, he may be permitted to kill
his father because he cannot leave the murderer of his father without avenge.
He said, “But I cannot bear such torture and insults may appeal that I will
kill the murderer of my father thereby killing a believer and entering eternal
punishment in heaven.” On hearing his plea, Mohammed answered, “We shall not
kill your father, we shall be kind to him and we shall appreciate his
friendship as long as he wishes to extend to us.” This forgiveness exhibited by
Mohammed touched the heart of Abdullah.
During the expedition,
another important event which was attempted to be used by the Munafiquon
happened. Mohammed had taken his wife Aisha to accompany him during this
expedition. Aisha was thin and light and her presence inside the palanquin in
which she rode was hardly noticeable by men who would lift the placement of
camels. On the way back to Medina Mohammed and his companions camped in a place
near Medina to spend the night and recover their energy. At the dawn, Mohammed
gave instructions to their men to resume their journey to Medina. Aisha had
stepped out of Mohammed’s tent while her palanquin was placed at the entrance
of the tent. Though she quickly returned to the tent, she found that she has
lost her necklace. She quickly turned back in search of the necklace and it
took a long time to recover it. When she came back, the whole company had left
the tent; she realized that her servant also has disappeared under the
impression that she was on her camel. Thinking that the company would return in
search of her, Aisha decided to remain on that spot.
While she was waiting
there, Safwan Ibn Muttal who was out of the camp on an errand in the desert
returned to the camp. He also found that his companions have already left for
Medina. To his surprise, he found Aisha there. He asked her why she was left
behind for which she did not give a proper reply. He brought his camel and
invited her to ride on it. She rode on his camel and Safwan rushed to Medina as
fast as he could, to join the Muslims before they entered the city of Medina.
The Muslim army was travelling at a very fast pace. Safwan reached Medina in
full daylight and people saw Aisha riding on his camel. When Aisha entered her
house no one present entertained any suspicion or unusual behavior from their
part. (To be contd.)
